June Favourites 2019

Hi, loves!

Can you believe it’s July already?! I swear time goes quicker each year.. This is my first monthly favourites post so I hope you guys enjoy it! I’m hopefully going to make it into a monthly thing. I’ll be talking about my favourite things from books, food, hobbies, music and beauty to new coping mechanisms I’ve tried throughout the month. So here goes! 🙂

Mindfulness/grounding techniques: Throughout the month of June, I have really tried to get into mindfulness. Unfortunately something that’s never really worked for me in the past as I’m a natural overthinker and maybe a little bit pessimistic when it comes to self-help methods.. but, as I said, June has been the month I’ve really given it a good go. My preferred method of mindfulness is ‘grounding’, which is something I do when feeling anxious/overwhelmed. I try to name 5 colours I can see, 1 thing I can smell etc. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing, but it’s definitely helped me stay a little more grounded when in an anxiety provoking situation.

Elf Exfoliator: Face exfoliation is something I definitely don’t do enough of, but June has been the month I’ve really started to focus on it. I suffer from quite bad texture, especially on my forehead where I tend to have little bumps that form under my skin. Nothing has ever fully combatted it, but I’ve really noticed a difference since exfoliating 1-2 times a week, rather than once every 2-3 weeks like beforehand (…oops!) Trust me, if you suffer from texture then exfoliation is your best friend! The Elf one is the only one I’ve properly tried but it’s actually proved to be really good and gets the job done, as well as being cruelty free (which is a must for me if I want to try a brand out). I’ll include a link to this product at the bottom of my blog post incase you want to try it out – hopefully you love it as much as I have!

Soap&Glory Melty Talented Wonderbalm: Now, I’ve tried pretty much every Soap&Glory product and loved the vast majority, so you can imagine my shock when I found a product I’ve never even heard of! The Soap&Glory Wonderbalm has been my saviour this month, as unfortunately I suffer from dry lips and some areas of dry skin no matter what season it is. The tin says it can be put on the end of hair, lips, skin (basically anywhere) to give a little moisture boost. This product has worked wonders for me, especially for only £5! Sadly, I’ve nearly used it all up so I’ll definitely be purchasing another one as soon as possible.

BaByliss Detangle Brush: Despite being hair-sore my whole life, brushes have never been something I’ve splurged on. I’ve always just thought every brush did the same standard job and it wasn’t worth spending more than a few quid on one.. Oh how wrong I was! I received the BaByliss detangle brush as a present off my mum for my 21st birthday (thank you mum!) and have never looked back since. This is the only brush I will use now and I freak out if I can’t find it! It glides through knots so effortlessly with no pain at all. It retails for around £10, which for me is quite steep for a brush, but I can absolutely say it’s worth every penny. If you’re going to splurge on a hairbrush, this is the one.

Yolt Money Saving iPhone App: I think it’s safe to say I’ve never been a good money saver. However, being a student, I’m currently heavily in my overdraft and desperately need to get saving. I’m so awful at not spending all my wages at once that I decided to download a money saving app on a whim. I just downloaded the first one I saw, but I’m sure they all do a similar thing. The Yolt app is the one I went for, and it’s actually been a great help! It gives you the option to categorise what each transaction from your bank is being spent on (e.g. beauty, food, bills, groceries) and it does it automatically for you by linking to your bank account! This app has been a life saver for me throughout June and I’ll definitely continue to use it in the future.

Pokemon Go: Blast from the past, right?! Pokemon Go is something everyone and their dog used to play back in 2016-2017, and for some reason it just fizzled out (as things tend to do after some time). However, the month of June has been the time me and my boyfriend have re-downloaded Pokemon Go on our phones and fell back in love. It gets me out the house and gives me a good distraction when I’m in an anxiety provoking situation – it’s absolutely great for me and I advise any anxiety sufferers out there to give it a go! I hope it helps; let me know down in the comments if you try it out and if it helps you. I’ve even got my friend and her boyfriend back into it who both stopped playing it back at the start of 2017, haha!

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush: This one is definitely and oldie but a goldie! Through the month of June, I’ve strayed away from my beauty blender and gone for a standard foundation brush more than I usually do as I’ve been going for more full coverage makeup looks this month. Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE my Real Techniques beauty blender! However, this foundation brush is great for a full coverage base and creates a seamless finish. Say goodbye to streaks, say hello to smooth skin!

Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: Another blast from the past! Is June just the month I fell back in love with old products?! Ashamedly, I haven’t actually used a setting spray in around a year. I just couldn’t justify spending money on one as I don’t see them as particularly necessary. However, my opinion has now completely changed. On the plane back from Amsterdam with my boyfriend back in May, I decided to buy a mini version of the Urban Decay setting spray for around £7, as I figured £7 wasn’t too much for me to spend for me to try out a product I may fall in love with. Like I said, I used to use this product back in 2016 and liked it. However, this time I LOVE it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula or if I’m just applying it better somehow, but it keeps my makeup on like a dream. Even on the boiling hot days through June, my makeup didn’t budge. I’ll definitely be purchasing the full bottle once this mini runs out!

So, I think that’s it! Eight things I’ve loved throughout the month of June. What have been your favourites throughout June? Let me know down in the comments! Also please let me know if you’d like me to do this post every month or not – I won’t be offended if you say no! 😉

Lots of love,

Soph. xx

  1. I actually don’t wear any makeup. My reasoning for that is not to save money but if people can’t accept my natural beauty, then they probably shouldn’t be friends with me.

Your brush caught my attention. I’m looking for a brush that can detangle my hair. I’m wondering what stores would sell it in Canada. Also, how much is a quid worth?

      1. I’ve been meaning to get into mindfulness as well, but like you I’m also pessimistic about self-help methods haha. This is a great list, thanks for sharing. (:

      2. i sometimes think maybe it doesn’t work because i’m so pessimistic about it! so i’ve been really trying to be more optimistic 🙂 it’s hard to change your mindset though, isn’t it?! xx

      3. I got my makeup done for my wedding and it made me feel beautiful. Makeup is magic! People didn’t even recognize me with makeup because they’re so used to seeing me without any!

Good to know! I learned something new today 😀

  2. I love favourites posts-definitely do more! I have a tangle teezer hairbrush which has changed my life because my hair gets sooooo tangled! I think mine is the original brand but when they got popular a lot of brands started bringing out similar brushes. It is so worth it, and I have a couple of similar style but different brand brushes that I bought when they were on clearance!

  3. Mindfulness has never been my thing either. Even your grounding technique would have me overthinking about colors!
By the way, Pokémon Go is still a big deal where I live. Community days are huge!

  5. Mindfulness is definitely something I need to work on. I recently started using Headspace again to work on my breathing and it’s been super helpful so far. I used to love the Urban Decay setting spray! My NYX one is running out atm so I might need to pick it up again. Also, Pokemon GO dominated my summer in 2017 haha, I found my old DS last week though with all my old Pokemon games and remembered how much I loved playing them. I swear I’m the biggest kid haha, loved this! xx

    1. I need to try Headspace because breathing exercises can be so helpful for so many people! I love the Urban Decay setting spray but it’s SO expensive!! Same, literally all I did in 2017 was walk around trying to find pokestops! Thank you so much for the comment, lovely xx
