Remember the days when makeup brands released, like, one eyeshadow palette per year? Or at least it felt like that, anyway. I always used to get excited whenever I saw the release of the brand new product, saving up my pocket money months in advance. Nowadays, it seems makeup brands release an eyeshadow palette every month, and it’s boring me.
This may just be me, but I’m beginning to feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of launches from brands, particularly in the makeup industry. I guess it’s all about competition nowadays, who can release the best palette in the shortest amount of time. Surely it can’t just be me that has an abundance of warm tone neutrals in my eyeshadow collection, yet still feels the pressure/rush to buy the latest palette that looks exactly the same as all my others. It’s such a waste of money, but I love makeup.
I love makeup, but I’m beginning to fall out of love with the makeup industry. Every brand seemingly releasing a new eyeshadow palette every month is ruining the excitement and rush of a new product announcement for me. I can’t afford to buy a new palette each month, and quite frankly I don’t want to. However, it’s so easy in modern times to feel as if you’re falling behind with your makeup collection and falling out the loop with the latest releases.
I no longer save up for the upcoming ABH palette, because I can’t even keep up with what the latest palette is anymore. Every single time I browse Beauty Bay recently, I see an abundance of brand new palettes that all look exactly the same. I miss getting excited about makeup, and I miss feeling up to date with the new releases. Sadly, that feels impossible nowadays.
I’m starting to give up on buying new makeup as I almost have too much choice. Personally, I’d much rather a brand spend a year perfecting a new release, rather than rushing to create a palette every month just because they want to keep up with the other brands.
What are your views on this? Honestly, for all I know, I may be alone with this opinion. I’d love to know your opinion down below in the comments!
Finding make up that fits seems like an impossible task sometimes!
Especially foundation has been a nightmare.
A few months ago, I decided to focus on skincare rather than make up. After all, the better the condition of your skin is, the less you “need to” cover up 😉
I agree with the too much choice! I stopped looking or else I’d buy it all, haha.

I’m definitely also getting into skin care more than ever right now! We should really be looking after our skin more, as we do have it forever 🙂

I guess it’s that idea of “if you build it they will come” – if you release it they will buy it. But when companies are busy trying to milk a concept for all its worth, consumers end up getting burnt out.

I’ve totally been feeling this lately, mainly because I have so much make up, and so much I want to try but I feel like I am wasting so much! There are so many releases, and no one can use ridiculous amounts of make up!

I’m so glad it’s not just me being a killyjoy! It’s completely ruining the excitement of new releases, as there’s so many every week that it’s just not something to look forward to anymore!

Yes! We all have too many choices. It becomes more important than ever to ask what’s really important to you and only spend your money on that, rather than purchasing every new product.

There’s definitely too much choice out there. As a makeup novice it can be really overwhelming to walk into a store and see so many options.

Definitely! I also find it really ruins the excitement of a new product release, as we’re getting so used to it. 😦

Not only is make-up being sent out into the world at a saturating rate, people are frankly disgusting when they use too much; it is like looking at someone’s face and looking and looking and only seeing an alien under the layers of foundation and tones.

A lot of mainstream brands def churn out products so quickly that they don’t even give each release time to shine or reach cult-classic status

I think, it’s all about the money now. They are putting quantity over quality and assumes their loyal fanbase would buy their every new palette/ edition. When the industry starts being greedy, people are quick to catch hints and you know it’s downhill from there.
Also, I enjoyed reading your other blog posts too and hence I subscribed 🙂
